About Aftertax
Aftertax answers one question: if you earned the same gross salary in different European countries, how much would you actually keep? It runs the numbers for all 27 EU members plus the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland and lays them side by side in a single currency, so the comparison is fair.
Who makes it
Aftertax is an independent project, not a company, a tax firm, or anything connected to a government or tax authority. It exists because this comparison is genuinely useful when you are weighing a job offer, a relocation, or a remote-work arrangement, and the existing tools each cover one country at a time.
How the estimates work
A pure calculation engine applies each country's 2025–2026income-tax bands, personal allowances, and mandatory employee social security to your salary in that country's own currency, then converts the result back to euros. Seven countries with unusual systems have hand-written calculators. Every country is modelled with deliberate, documented simplifications: a single filer, no dependents, national scales, and national averages for local taxes.
The full approach, the per-country simplifications, and the sources are on the methodology page. The engine is covered by an automated test suite that checks it stays sane across salary levels and pins the tricky cases.
What it is not
It is not tax, financial, or legal advice, and it does not compute your real liability. Please read the disclaimer and terms of use, and check anything important with a qualified professional in the country concerned.
Privacy
The salary you type never leaves your browser. The calculation runs entirely on your device. Details are in the privacy policy.
