Gross salary converted at ECB reference rates, then taxed under each place’s own rules. Employee income tax and mandatory social security only. How we calculate

How tax works in Graubünden

The tariff gives a "simple tax", multiplied by the canton's rate of 92% and Chur's of 88%.

Taxable income for the cantonal and communal tax is net pay after these deductions:

  • Social contributions (AHV/IV/EO, unemployment, accident insurance and the pension fund) come off gross pay first.
  • Professional expenses: 10% of net pay, at least CHF 1,400 and at most CHF 3,300.
  • Insurance premiums and savings interest: CHF 4,560.

Direct federal tax is the same everywhere: from 0% on the first CHF 15,200 of taxable income up to 11.5% overall, after a 3% professional-expense deduction (CHF 2,000 to 4,000) and CHF 1,800 for insurance.

What this estimate simplifies

It uses only the standard flat deductions, as the federal tax calculator does by default: no commuting, meals or pillar 3a, which would lower your tax. Pension contributions follow the federal calculator's model for a 35-year-old; your fund's rate depends on your age and plan. No wealth tax is included.
