How income tax works in Indonesia

Taxable income (PKP) is gross pay plus the employer's accident, death and health premiums, less the position allowance (biaya jabatan, 5% up to Rp6,000,000 a year), the employee's pension contributions (JHT and JP) and the non-taxable allowance for a single person (PTKP TK/0, Rp54,000,000), rounded down to the thousand.

Employee contributions. BPJS Kesehatan takes 1% of wages up to Rp12,000,000 a month. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan takes 2% for old-age savings (JHT, no cap) and 1% for the pension (JP), on wages up to Rp11,086,300 a month from March 2026.

What this estimate simplifies

Monthly withholding uses the TER flat rates, but the December recalculation brings the year's tax to the annual figure shown here. Assumes the lowest accident-risk class, no other benefits, and a worker covered by the pension scheme (foreign employees often aren't). Some sectors have 2026 tax borne by the government on wages up to Rp10,000,000 a month; that isn't applied.

Every figure is for single resident employee, no dependants (tk/0), in the local currency. See the methodology for how we calculate and test.
