Why there's no tax to break down
The UAE has no federal personal income tax, and Fujairahdoesn't levy one of its own — no emirate does. For a foreign employee (the large majority of the UAE's private-sector workforce), there is also no mandatory social security deduction: the GPSSA pension scheme applies only to UAE and other GCC nationals.
The only emirate with a coastline on the Gulf of Oman rather than the Persian Gulf, and a major global bunkering and oil-storage port. Mountainous terrain and a smaller, more industrial and shipping-focused job market than the other emirates.
What this estimate simplifies
This models a foreign/expatriate employee with no other income. It doesn't include the UAE's mandatory Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) unemployment-insurance fee — a nominal AED 5-10 a month based on basic salary, immaterial at any real income, and not modelled since this tool doesn't track basic salary separately from gross. See Aftertax's European methodology for the same principle of transparent simplifications applied across the site.
Common questions
Does Fujairah have its own income tax on top of UAE federal tax?
No. The UAE has no personal income tax at the federal level, and no emirate — including Fujairah — levies its own income tax on salaries either. A gross salary and its take-home pay are the same figure for the persona this calculator models (a foreign/expatriate employee, which the large majority of the UAE's private-sector workforce is).
Is that really it — no deductions at all?
For a foreign employee, essentially yes. The UAE's mandatory pension scheme (GPSSA, up to 20% of pay, 26% in Abu Dhabi) applies only to UAE and other GCC nationals, not foreign workers. There is one small exception: the mandatory Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) unemployment-insurance fee, which does apply to foreign workers too, at AED 5-10 a month depending on basic salary — left out here both because it's immaterial at any real salary and because it's based on basic salary specifically, not the gross figure this tool tracks.
Why does Fujairah show the exact same take-home pay as every other emirate?
Because there's no emirate-level tax variation to model — this isn't a simplification, it's the actual UAE tax system. The only emirate with a coastline on the Gulf of Oman rather than the Persian Gulf, and a major global bunkering and oil-storage port. Mountainous terrain and a smaller, more industrial and shipping-focused job market than the other emirates. None of that affects the number on this page, only what it's worth to live on day to day.
Are UAE nationals taxed differently than the figure shown for Fujairah?
Yes, but only through social security, not income tax — UAE nationals still pay 0% income tax, but contribute to the GPSSA pension scheme (5% employee-side, more in Abu Dhabi). This calculator models the foreign-employee case, since that's the persona most people comparing Fujairah's take-home pay actually are.
