Gross salary converted at ECB reference rates, then taxed under each place’s own rules. Employee income tax and mandatory social security only. How we calculate
The whole gross salary is treated as taxable income, and the first Rs 600,000 a year is taxed at 0%. There is no standard deduction or personal allowance. The same salaried rates apply whether or not you are on the Active Taxpayers List, because the higher withholding for non-filers does not cover salary. The 9% surcharge on salaried income above Rs 10 million ended with the Finance Act 2026. Super tax of 8% of all income applies only above Rs 500 million a year.

Employee contributions. Employees' Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) takes 1% of the minimum wage, not of your salary, so the amount is the same at every pay level: Rs 407 a month (Rs 4,884 a year) on the Rs 40,700 federal minimum wage. It is Rs 430 a month in Sindh, whose minimum wage is Rs 43,000, and Rs 400 in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while their last notified Rs 40,000 stands. The employer pays a further 5%. Provincial employees' social security is paid by the employer, so nothing comes out of your pay for it.
Assumes every rupee of pay is taxable and that you work for an employer with at least five employees, which is where EOBI applies. An exempt medical allowance of up to 10% of basic salary, reimbursed medical costs, Zakat, charitable donations and approved pension fund contributions would all reduce your tax. Provident fund contributions are voluntary and left out, as is provincial professional tax, a small yearly charge that varies by province (Rs 1,400 to Rs 5,500 for private employees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). Some employers pay EOBI on a different wage base while the courts settle the question.
Every figure is for salaried individual whose salary is more than 75% of taxable income, in the local currency. See the methodology for how we calculate and test.
